In the open waters of the Red Sea, being visible is your most important safety measure. A Surface Marker Buoy (SMB)—often called a "safety sausage"—is a bright, inflatable tube that you deploy at the end of a dive to alert boat captains and our crew of your exact location.
⚠️ Mandatory Safety Gear (Legal Requirement)
Per Egyptian maritime law and our strict safety protocols, every diver must carry their own SMB. It is a mandatory piece of equipment for every dive. This ensures that in the event of a drift or if you become separated from the group, you can be easily spotted from a distance.
If you do not have your own, they are available for rent on board.

- Visibility: Currents can sometimes carry divers away from the reef; an SMB makes you visible to the boat crew even in choppy water.
- Safety Stops: Deploying an SMB while underwater marks your position during your safety stop, ensuring boats stay a safe distance away.
Independence: Having your own SMB means you are always prepared to be found, regardless of where your dive buddy is.
- Per Day: 3.00 €
- 4 Days / 3 Nights: 9.00 €
- 8 Days / 7 Nights: 18.00 €
Note: If you are booking our "Full Equipment" package, an SMB is already included in your gear set!
- Don't know how to use one? If you have never deployed an SMB (using a reel or spool), our dive guides are happy to show you the proper technique during your first day on board.
- Pre-Booking: Please let us know if you need to rent an SMB at least 14 days before departure so we can have it ready for your BCD.
- Payment: Rental fees are settled comfortably on board at the end of your trip.
